About Music Brings Life
Donating blood is a community responsibility. We must work together to make sure that blood is available whenever a patient needs it. You never know when you, a family member, friend or co-worker will need blood. It is the goal of Music Brings Life to ensure that blood is available for patients before it is needed.
Music Brings Life is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that educates young people in the Black, Latino and Caribbean communities about the importance of donating blood.
Founded in 2009, Music Brings Life holds events and uses music to inspire and generate donors in ethnic communities. Additionally, we facilitate the donation process by partnering with blood collection organizations.
Our approach to generating donors has been successful. Thanks to support from community leaders, Music Brings Life has raised over 3,000 units of lifesaving blood. Since every unit of donated blood can be divided into components that can help as many as three patients in need, Music Brings Life has helped save over 9,000 lives!
Here in 2016 we are working with our partners -- Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network (SCTPN), the American Red Cross, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and Sesame Flyers International -- to continue our mission.
"While the need for all types of blood donations is ongoing, the need for donations in the Black, Latino and Caribbean communities is crucial," said Keenan "Special" Bristol, president and founder of Music Brings Life. "In order to make people in these communities want to donate blood we first need to get their attention, and we accomplish this through music."
The best way to get more people to donate blood and help save lives is to inform and educate them. This is the mission of Music Brings Life.
